CHUCK STERNE MEMORIAL

Chuck Sterne Honored for his Philanthropic Service

Our friend and esteemed colleague Charles “Chuck” Sterne III passed away in January 2022. Chuck was a local titan in our field and served as a PGCGP Board member as well as President of PGCGP from 1997 through 1999. He was a dynamic presenter during our Planned Giving Day Conferences and his good counsel was both sought after and welcomed by many.

Chuck was a dedicated member of the Curtis Institute of Music’s development and advancement department for 27 years. His tenure began in February 1993 until his retirement as director of principal gifts and planned giving in December 2020. Chuck led important fundraising initiatives at the school, including the campaign to develop Lenfest Hall and the creation of The Founder’s Society. His work helped transform the school and contributed significantly to long-term financial stability.

We are grateful to have known Chuck for so many years here at PGCGP. We miss him and fondly remember his good humor and wise counsel. We nominated Chuck as the 2022 recipient of the Legacy Award for his dedicated service in the field of philanthropy. This award was presented to Austin Stewart, who accepted the award on behalf of Chuck’s wife, Eileen Marolla, who was unable to attend AFP-GPC’s National Philanthropy Day held on November 18th 2022 in Philadelphia.

Delia G. Perez, MBA, CFRE, CAPĀ® and PGCGP President, Austin Stewart, PhD, and PGCGP Member representing the Curtis Institute of Music and the Sterne family, and Doris Parent, MBA and AFP-GPC President at the AFP-GPC's 2022 National Philanthropy Day.
